Robert Balzar
Robert Balzar has played with stalwarts such as Joe Newman and Tony Scott as well as
part-timer Bill Clinton on his 1994 album THE PRES BLOWS. He has recorded as a
leader but usually can be found with fellow Czech Republic players in classic piano
trio format.
Balzar keeps time with a LaFaro sound on ballads and is very adept on fast tempos.
When he goes high, he's not like a modern bassist, but Oscar Pettiford playing the
cello! He seems always to find great walking lines with a tone that is mostly
classical, full of technique and grace.
